last weekend, I had a surprisingly amazing opportunity. Going with my middle boy's scout troop, we spent an overnight on the USS Cobia, a WWII Gato class submarine. Almost fully functional, we got a three hour tour of the boat from guide, stuff the kids into torpedo tubes, maneuvered the 40mm deck gun, and gawked at all of the knobs and dials that used to control the ship. The racks were snug, but surprisingly comfortable because of the spring mesh. In addition to being a great glimpse into some awe-inspiring history, it sparked several creative ideas. We'll see where that leads. If you get a chance, I recommend stopping by for a tour. They also offer it as a B&B overnight stay.
